Migrant Female workers Story - Sunday Morning in Victoria Park (2010)

I think Indonesia has some good films, and it is so close to our reality. I have found that in Minggu Pagi di Victoria Park (Sunday Morning in Victoria Park) (2010). This film emerges about migrant female workers in Hong Kong with their complexity problem.

Told, Sekar (Titi Rajo Bintang) is a favorite daughter to her father. One day, Sekar went to Hong Kong to be a migrant. She came from a local area in East Java and had a different dialect. Sekar's old sister named Mayang (Lola Amaria) was envious of her. Because Sekar more beautiful, more talented, more loved, and she has sent much money to her parent--and Mayang is not.

Sunday Morning in Victoria Park (2010)
Because there is no news from Sekar, Mayang is asked her father to search Sekar in Hong Kong. So, Mayang to be a migrant worker too, she takes care of a child and becomes a housemaid in Hong Kong. Sekar met with many migrant workers too who have worked there. Every Sunday, they have gathered in Victoria Park with all of their styles. Victoria Park such as a living laboratory, every story lived there.

The red line conflict was how Mayang searched Sekar. When Sekar had been a big credit to Super Credit (blood leech company), this company has very high interest. To pay the debt, Sekar worked everything, even she sold her body to the prostitute. Mas Gandi (Donny Damara) helped her, but Sekar always escapes.

Not only Mas Gandi, most of the migrant workers who gathered in Victoria Park also helped her. Also, Vincent likes Mayang. Oh, I felt this scene so sweet, the story between Vincent (Donny Alamsyah) and Mayang. Like the other woman, Mayang has felt inferior and asked herself, is there anyone who wants to be with her? And he becomes her partner?

I have learned about the profession. Sari (Imelda Soraya) (Mayang's friend) said that to be a servant or housemaid or pembantu is the same as the other profession. Don't see this profession as lower than the other profession. This profession is halal, and this statement hit my mind. I looked at the reality, even me, feeling that being a housemaid is humiliated. Not again, and not again. Every profession is the same, every profession is equal. There is no difference, even a president vs a servant.

Mayang's message to the child remained me too, when bullied, people have to accept their own flawed. So she/he will accept that without the frustration that makes hurting. Showed me too, about the disharmony between a young and old sister, the not sincere feeling, and family dis-mood.

Many issues to in other workers, even about suicide in Yati (Permata Sari Harahap), LGBT, to buy a field for the parent, relationship with parasite boyfriend, etc. Migrant female workers are not strong as the label "Pahlawan Devisa" (Foreign Exchange Hero). They are complicated, for a salary, for a workload, for crimes against humanity.

Salute for this film. And this, a good review too from Mbak Niken, Minggu Pagi di Victoria Park.
