The Scream - Edward Munch

Do you want to impress people, and understanding about art, if so, learn how to critique. To critique the painting, all you have to do is remember 4 simple steps: DESCRIPTION, ANALYSIS, INTERPRETATION, JUDGEMENT.

1. Description: If you want people to think you are an expert, you have to make lists, know the basics of the painting. For the description, you should say the name of the works, the artists, the medium. Next, say what it looks like, but don’t use opinion words, like beautiful or nice. You want to sound objective, but intelligent. Colours, line, shape, keep on articular description, everything you see.

Example: The painting is called “The Scream”. It was created with temper of paint and pasto, by expression of artist of Edvard Munch. The subject is single solitary figure standing on the bridge. His hands raise his face, his mouth is opened, his reckless are reviewed clear, and look to tera.

2. Analysis: This is an important part to the critique. For the analysis, you tell the elements of the painting are organized. How they complement one and another. Is there movement, variety, balance, contrast, what’s the artist emphasise. The painting evokes some intense emotions because of two things: line and colour.

Example: The way of the line in the sky in the landscape contrast intensely with the straight line of the bridge, the bond strikes into the yellow and red, stand out against the deep uses blue and green. The strong diagonal of the bridge moving out to the ways of the viewer. The rapid swalling movement of the landscape in the white colours, all combine to create imaginative chaos and anxiety. Emotions and chaos of the colours and line, create imaginative choice: emotions, panics.

3. Interpretation: For the interpretation, you should describe what the artist want to saying for the works.

Example: The Subject, the teriffy person, is alone on the bridge and consume by the panics and fear. The vaseness of the sky on the bridge, which surounds the persons, keeps the painting of the feeling of alienation and loneliness, what the same time conveying chaos and emotions and no intensity. Although, it was painted in 1893, it makes me think of the stress and anxiety of the modern world. The outer maybe trying to express the idea of the loneliness and crazy, stressful, chaos, chaotic world. The man is totally alone and totally consume by fear.

4. Judgement: The last steps in critiques are the judgement. This is when you say whatever the works are success or failure in your opinion. This is your opportunity to really express your opinion to the painting.

Example: The painting evokes the feeling of fear, loneliness, desperated. I look at it, and I feel overwhelmed at that’s month era, his panics, the overwhelming feeling of stress, and tera. But also, his loneliness I can feel what he’s feeling. Although it’s a frightened feeling, I might scale the artist to evoke such an emotional response. I think the painting is fascinating to look at, successfully created decisions and the confess universal emotions, a feeling that can be understood by all. I can almost feel terrifying scream.

And then you have it. Next time, when you are admiring arts to the gallery or museum, just remember: DESCRIPTION, ANALYSIS, INTERPRETATION, JUDGEMENT. You are well understanding your friend with your involves, and you might enjoy yourself.
