Submarine (2010): A Teenager Complexity Seeing The Relation

I have been long to get information about this film: Submarine (2010). Oh, ya, this is my first review again about a foreign film. When I still lived in Semarang, one of my friends in a dating app recommended this film to see. But, my motivation for seeing this film because I like Alex Turner's song, especially "Stuck on The Puzzle". 

When you are the family man type, I think this good for you. In slow-motion the whole of the story. Talked about Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts), 15 y.o.,  who has a unique parent, his dad Lloyd Tate (Noah Taylor) worked as a sea lecturer, his mom Jill Tate (Sally Hawkins) worked as a social worker. His parent for Oliver perspective has been disharmony. So, Oliver in his teenage time, trying to make his parents peace again. Her parents feel their marriage is tasteless.

Jordana and Oliver, Submarine (2010)

In "Submarine" the red line uniqueness is based on the actor's character. From Oliver to his girlfriend named Jordana Bevan (Yasmin Paige), his classmate. Jordana is a strange student too in the school. She always uses the red jacket, like playing with the fire and matches (pyromania). She has a strange disease in her skin, allergic to a dog but she likes the dog. Oliver is strange too. He has an awkward personality, he ever bullied as gay in school, he has no many friends. And he likes to imagine when he died, or he feels that his life like the film--there is a hidden camera watched him. And of course, he is anti-social man.

If you say that it is a comedy film, I think, it is not. Depressive film? Hm, not really. Also not a story about the bucin teenager who thinks that love will save her/him from the cruel world--oh, this hits me personally, haha. I like Jordana's character as a woman teenager. 

When Oliver invited her to sleep with him, Jordana was giving him the three reasons why they must do that? And Jordana was rejecting the first reason, when Oliver had written that Jordana loved him fatally, haha. I feel laughing enough in the second reason, they should do it together before it's legal. Such as a subversive statement in making love, but naively. Again, Again, I love Jordana's character seeing the relation. She is not an impulsive woman like the other woman. She also doesn't like any kind of the romantic stuff.

The core conflict did when his mom made relation with her first love, Graham (Paddy Considine). At the same time, Jordana has a problem with her parent, her mom has cancer. In real reality, Oliver's character who likes to intervene in others men's business has been problematic. In some phases from prolog to epilogue, the dramatic emotions like a wheel.  The gloomy scenery had been proper with all characters, except Graham maybe.

And if you like reading Salinger, Nietzsche, or Shakespeare, there are good recommendation book titles for you. Oh, this film took from Joe Dunthorne's novel with the same title. You can see, with the high book that Oliver read, he can change Jordana's ethic from the victim to the criminal--hm, someone ever did like that to me, and I like him. And Oliver prefers to write than to say. In this film, Oliver's problem to be a big circle that shaped all the story. In every phase, every actor have found their maturity.
